Four Truths about Work-Life Balance exposed in this conference:

  1. Flexible time and parental leave is incompatible with many jobs. Quote: « All the discussions about flexi-time or dress-down Fridays or paternity leave only serve to mask the core issue, which is that certain job and career choices are fundamentally incompatible with being meaningfully engaged on a day-to-day basis with a young family« .
  2. Governments don’t solve the issues of work-life balance for us. And the quality of your life is not in the hands of a company. Companies make money; it is in their DNA, this is what they do: money. It is not because you have a childcare in the office that you will be offered true work-life balance… You need to set the boundaries for yourself.
  3. Balance the needs at the right time of your life. Before retirement, the days are too short and after retirement, they are too long. In the meantime, the right balance needs to be found between work and a significant engagement with your family.
  4. Be balanced in all areas: spiritual, emotional, physical. Yes, it can be daunting but small investments can change the quality of your relationships and ultimately change the world.
